Car rental agency(Thrifty) tried to jack up cost of rental car, so I told them I would not rent from them. A lady, who just "happened" to be in Thrifty office, offered a solution to get half of car rental knocked off if we just sat through a Vida presentation that included a free breakfast. All we had to do was give her $40USD earnest money which would be returned after the presentation along with the Thrifty vouchers for 2000 pesos.
Next day we drove to Grand Mayan and got a grueling hard sell for 4 hours from a guy named Joe. After I convinced him that we wouldn't buy his $70,000 unit, he turned quite unfriendly and insulting, suggesting we go live under a rock, or in a cardboard box or a tent if we weren't going to buy his timeshare.
We finally got our $40 back and our Thrifty vouchers but had trouble getting transportation back to the parking lot and our rental car. We ended up walking about 1/2 mile in the rain.
Because of this bad experience, we are done with Mexico forever.
